Thought I was all caught up on book news when I discover yet another book’s out with a story of mine in it. The third Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica is out, this time carrying On Hallowed Ground, which originally appeared at Scarlet Letters. I must admit, I get a lot of satisfaction each time I see a story in print and, this time, I’m in good company — so many writers from so many walks of life and vantage points. I only wish I’d thought to write down the names of the contributors when I leafed through the book at my local bookstore. (No, I didn’t bought it; I’m still awaiting a contributor’s copy.) I will say it’s kind of freaky to be in the same pages as Michel Faber.
Sometimes wishes come true: Readmagic started producing their smutty reprints in Microsoft Reader format no long after I voiced my desire for such. Hurray! And if any books can be called “classic DBs” or “classic smut,” it’s the selection at Readmagic.
Evidence Valentine’s Day is right around the corner: In currying book passion, ABEbooks suggests you search for erotica. (Have some fun with it: Do the search, then sort according to highest price and look at what comes up for grabs.) As well, ThinkGeek’s pushing their cute 403 panties, but I think it would be wild to up the ante with some custom one-of-a-kind erotica.
Magazine notables: Bomb interviews Rikki Ducornet (and, yeah, I’m looking forward to getting her new novel). And the current print issue of Girlfriends magazine has an interview with Susie Bright. It’s not online so hit the bookstores.
OK, now I think I’m done with book news for the week. Next up: link-cleaning.
