Did you catch HRC President Cheryl Jacques during the dinner hour?
on July 28th, 2004 at 6:00 pmIf not, the HRC is blogging from the DNC and you can get transcripts and video there. Frankly, I thought it was great to see all the Kerry/Edwards signs complete with pride colors waving then and all evening long. Think there’ll be that kind of queer presence at the RNC? Maybe, but it’ll be outside in the protest zone.
You probably heard already that staff of The Simpsons plans to bring gay marriage to Springfield. I think they ought to finally declare Springfield as being in the great Ashcroft state of Missouri, just to be totally irreverent. As to who’ll come out of the closet, I’m hoping it’s Jimbo. I want to see his little band of deliquents ask Skinner for a Gay/Straight Alliance and then, their gayness validated, become something of a wholesome fab three, punk style. However, I’m betting on Groundskeeper Willie (audio). He’s already got the hot bod — and the Utilikilt.
Wow. A small world moment: The guy on the table during Tristan Taormino’s recent fist-a-thon is a good friend of mine, someone I lunch with at least monthly and have known for years. Wow, I say again.
I saw this earlier in the month, then lost track of it, but there’s a revealing and, at times, lighthearted interview with Pat Califia over at Clean Sheets about his new novel, Mortal Companion. Check it out.
On an entirely serious note: I’m hoping to clear my calendar so I can participate at a benefit reading for author/editor Paul Willis. (Look at that cover! Hot damn!) It’s scheduled for August 14th somewhere on the campus of UMASS in Amherst, Massachusetts. Paul was viciously and severely beaten by bashers, bad enough that, last I heard, he may or may not get to keep his now-blind right eye. I’m sure we’re trying to raise money to help with his medical expenses and to honor his work among us. I hope to be able to post more details soon about Paul’s situation and this reading
