Isn’t anywhere near enough to entice me to vote Republican. While I do believe he was sincere in his statements,* I sincerely believe it was a calculated move, part of the party’s effort to appear more moderate going into and through next week’s convention. It’s not only time to present a moderate facade, but to use it to lure enough numbers from segments of the moderate masses to give his boss an edge. Sorry, Mr. Cheney, I’m not buying it.

Your party has already formed much of its platform and it includes a pro-FMA, anti-civil unions language. And if voters are savvy enough to watch the convention in its off-prime-time hours, they might see the moderate facade set aside for the party faithful. Hey, plan your viewing time wisely and you’ll get to see this homophobe perform on air. (Thank you, AmericaBlog.)

So Mr. Cheney? Too little, too late.

Especially since you’ve presented nothing of any depth in what little you did say. You say you believe queers should be able to enter into whatever relationship they want, but you’ve said nothing about how rights should be accorded in a socially equitable way. In other words, until I hear you say that you endorse contractual arrangements between queer couples that are as affordable as a marriage license and stand up as well in probate as straight marriage, then you’ve said nothing of any value to me. My queer friends shouldn’t have to pay a lawyer $3500.00 dollars to create by contract what I get for a cheap $35.00 down at town hall — especially since their contractual arrangement can still be protested by others in probate.

Besides, your boss’s office sent me this letter awhile back. Until he publicly retracts this stance, you haven’t a ghost of a chance of luring me towards the Republican ticket.
