blog during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Because I’m not about to change the subject matter of this blog beyond its sex in culture and politics origins, I’m partial to putting the blog on hiatus when calamity strikes. Blogging about the joy of sex in the face of human loss and misery just isn’t my thing.
However, I will for now point out to Repent America that if the hurricane was truly meant to be godly retribution for Southern Decadence, then our omnipotent and infallible lord would’ve sent the hurricane while fags partied hearty. He would’ve wiped them out. He wouldn’t have displaced a quarter of a million blameless individuals. Nor would he have left a few brave queer souls on the streets of New Orleans to exercise their joie d’vive, parading the streets in bold homo strength.
I think the Nation Coalition for Sexual Freedom said it best:
NCSF Action Alert: Kink Blamed for Hurricane Katrina by Religious Political ExtremistsSouthern Decadence, a world-famous LGBT event, was slated to start August 31st. According to an evangelical Christian group that regularly demonstrates at LGBT events, “Hurricane Katrina has put an end to the annual celebration of sin.” (http://www.repentamerica.com/pr_hurricanekatrina.html)
“NCSF is appalled that this religious political extremist group is using a national tragedy to further their own goals,” says Susan Wright, NCSF Spokesperson. “Now is the time for everyone to join together in sympathy and support for our Southern brothers and sisters.”
Many local leather organizations including Mr. and Ms. Louisiana Leather base their groups’ events around Southern Decadence. (http://www.nola.com/festivals/southerndecadence.ssf)
Other events such as French Connection’s N’awlins in November, one of the country’s finest swing lifestyle conventions held every November, may also be affected by this tragic storm.
NCSF urges you to extend a helping hand to all people in the Southern states who have lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones by sending a donation to the Red Cross Relief Fund. (https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp)

On a personal note: I know many of you folks are likely contributing to the Red Cross and other capable organizations, but if you’d like to help a fellow writer/editor of mine, Jamie Joy Gatto and her partner are among the displaced, escaping only with the clothes they wore. She’s with friends but, as the Erotic Authors Association website notes, is in need. We’ve found her a laptop, but contributions would help her get back on her feet.
Thank you, one and all.
